“What have you done today to make you feel proud?”
A lesson from Heather Smalls & Miranda Hart... take note!
I’ve always been a fan of Heather Smalls. Her songs (when she was with M People too) have always lifted me up. I remember the first time I saw the scene in the show Miranda (with Miranda Hart), where Stevie held up a face cut out of Heather Smalls and would sing “What have you done today to make you feel proud?” ...I loved it!
It inspired me so much that I now do the same to my teams (minus a Heather Smalls mask)… I know they secretly love it.
Why would I write a blog about a song, you may ask?
We are in a sector that is so crucial in shaping the minds of our future, it is a sector that makes a difference to the lives of so many children and families.
This is something that should be sung about every day!
You should be having multiple Heather Smalls moments throughout your day, and if
you are not celebrating yourself, then do ask yourself:
Why didn’t you feel proud today/ are you being too hard on yourself?
What would have made you feel proud today?
What are you going to do tomorrow to make you feel proud?
I am writing this because if you are not celebrating yourself and feeling like you are being the best version of you and you are ready for a change – then I want to help.
I want to help each, and every, one of you find what makes you feel proud;
I want to help you to wake up every day knowing that today you are going to keep making the amazing difference you do; to help you find a place where you feel valued, inspired, and supported.
Why? Because when you feel all those things, the rest will follow, which means the children and your team will be lifted and inspired to be the best versions of themselves too.
Still not convinced?
Put your headphones in, press play on ‘Proud’, and let it lift you up.
If it gives you all the feels (and I bet it will), as it gives me; if you want to begin on your journey to finding the role and environment where you can thrive in, then let's have a chat, and
together let’s find what will make you feel proud every day!
So, what have you done today to make you feel proud?
