Get comfortable with being uncomfortable: making a career change

To grow and thrive in your career, you need to get comfortable with being uncomfortable.

Take the leap, make the change and you will see that there is a big wide world out there who you need to let see you in all your awesome-ness!

After 8 years working in the Education Sales Team at Modern Teaching Aids (MTA), I took a leap into a new and exciting opportunity. I dove head-first into the world of recruitment, remaining in the Early Education Sector and keeping connected with a network that is very dear to me. It was both wonderful and sad for so many different reasons. One of them being that I was saying goodbye to my family; my whole Australian journey started at MTA, and those of you that know me know how important the relationships in my life are. This is a place where I felt such belonging, where I had truly become, and where I was so happy being The send-off was truly beautiful and I left with so much love in my heart.

I was about to embark on a new journey, Murdock Education Recruitment here I come! Excited was an understatement!

How did I get there? What gave me the courage to make this big change?

It wasn’t a quick decision, it certainly was considered, and it came from a place of it being for all the right reasons. I consider myself fortunate to be able to say that. I knew it was time to take on a new challenge, I needed more of that becoming, and for that I needed to challenge myself. To become more than what you are doesn’t happen if you play it safe. So even though there were so many reasons to stay, every time I self checked, evaluated and took a glimpse into my future.. I knew I still had a big wide world out there to explore.

I have met some incredible people in the last 8 years, and still do every day - if you are reading this, you are no doubt one of them too!

Through all the work you do, the changes you make, the leaps you take and the nervous excitement you feel, there is one thing to remember. Keep your network strong. Nurture the network you have, in the sector where you so passionately give it your all every day. Through this, you will have the support and encouragement you need to jump! For me persoanlly, my network is the reason that I get to excitedly share this with you today, having joined Murdock Education Recruitment 6 weeks ago.

It is who you know, but it’s also up to you to take that connection and turn it into the outcome you desire. It is up to you to work hard, be dedicated, be authentic, and shine! They believe in you for a reason. Yes, you still had to go through the motions, but let them be a part of what helps you grow and thrive; just keep learning because we don’t know it all. That’s the most exciting part about the newness of all of this, it’s the learning! It’s starting a new success story!

So ask yourself this, are you ticking all three boxes right now? Do you feel Belonging, Being and Becoming? Are you ready to take the next steps in your career? Just remember, you’ve got this, you are more resilient than you think, and you have the courage within you to do what is best for you, for your future and what ultimately is going to fuel your inner flame of passion and what will drive you to be the best version of you. When you do that, the whole world benefits - and isn’t that the goal? To make a difference?

Thank you MTA for giving me 8 awesome years and thank you Murdock Education Recruitment for taking me on this next exciting chapter; I am grateful for the opportunities and the support. I am continuing to grow and thrive in my career, my story has many more pages still to be written - watch this space!
