Yes, You heard right! This is a real holiday! :)
June 1 has been proclaimed as "Global Day of Parents" by the United Nations
It became an official holiday in 1994 and is a time to honour parents for the hard work they do of raising the next generation. The Global Day provides an opportunity to appreciate all parents in all parts of the world for their selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship. On Parents' Day, people are encouraged to recognise the important contributions of responsible, committed parents in their communities.
1. Hold a Family Breakfast or Morning tea
Holding a breakfast or morning tea with the parents in your centre is a great way to show appreciation and get their children involved. This is a fantastic opportunity to build on that sense of community and have parent engagement.
2. Make a Memory Book
Make a memory book for mum and dad to show them all the fun times their children have in childcare. Mum and dad will treasure a book of memories that they can keep forever.
3. Praise someone's parenting
Each parent has their own unique parenting style, why not use this opportunity to praise another parent and let them know what you admire about his or her parenting. A simple way to make someone's day.
4. Paint a painting
As an activity in your centre, get the children to create a unique self-portrait or drawing that shows their perception or image of their parents. You never know what might come out from this activity, we have seen some doozies in the past :)
We hope you have a great time with some of these activities and sending everyone a Happy Parents Day
Good luck, Bella Arena
